Post-operative recurrent Crohn’s disease is common and can be challenging to diagnose, with the highest risk occurring in patients with multiple bowel resections or penetrating disease. Antibiotics, aminosalicylates, and immunomodulators may reduce the possibility, while monoclonal antibodies (eg, anti-TNF medications) are considered even more effective. This session will review some of the best ways to help patients avoid recurrent CD following surgery.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the natural course of postoperative Crohn’s disease
Describe the risk for recurrence after surgery and the medical options for prevention and treatment
Review the postoperative Crohn’s disease algorithm based on AGA guidelines
